Women's Health
All women have the basic human right to enjoy good physical and mental health, a right that is vital to their ability to participate fully in all areas of public and private life. Yet around the world, millions of poor women and girls suffer and die needlessly each year because they do not have good, clear information about their health, nor access to adequate care.
Good health is not merely the absence of disease but involves physical, social and emotional well-being. We cannot address women's health without also looking at the economic, political and social context of their lives.
Poverty, economic dependence, violence, discrimination and the limited power many women have over their sexual, reproductive, as well as other aspects of their lives, all have devastating consequences for women's health.
Hesperian is working to change this situation by making easy-to-understand, practical and culturally sensitive women's health information widely available to community health workers and grassroots women organizers. Developed in collaboration with health workers from around the world, our resources provide life-saving information and help communities to address the economic, political and cultural barriers to women's health.
