Join us in congratulating Hesperian’s executive director, Sarah Shannon, for winning two awards at this year’s APHA (American Public Health Association) Annual Meeting!
Sarah is the latest recipient of the Carl E. Taylor Lifetime Achievement Award presented by the APHA’s International Health section which “honors visionaries and leaders who have shaped the direction of international health.” Upon finding out she’d be receiving the award, Sarah shared that the late Davida Coady—Sarah’s mentor and the long-time Hesperian board member who first introduced Sarah to our organization—had considered Carl Taylor her own mentor.
Sarah is also the 2023 recipient of the Paul Cornely Award presented at the annual Health Activist Dinner. Named in recognition of the civil rights leader and public health pioneer, this award is given to individuals embodying the ideals of promoting health, peace, and social justice.
Both of these awards recognize that through 25 years of Sarah’s tireless leadership, Hesperian continues to respond to the health needs of today and empower people in the struggle for the right to health.
In addition to accepting these great honors, Sarah was busy presenting in sessions highlighting our reproductive health apps, and the latest updates to Where Women Have No Doctor and Disabled Village Children.
