Mission
At Hesperian, we strive for a world in which universal health exists and where all people and communities are equipped to achieve it. To do our part globally, Hesperian’s mission is to provide actionable information and educational tools that teach everyone to take greater control of their health while also understanding the underlying socio-economic causes of poor health. Our easy-to-understand materials are used by a global network of partners working innovatively to reach those most in need.
history
Our work began in 1973 when Where There Is No Doctor (Donde No Hay Doctor) was published and distributed in Mexico. It was the first health manual to explain complex health topics in easy-to-understand language and consider the lived experience of people in low-resource and rural settings. Since then, we have expanded to address a range of health challenges including disabilities, early childhood assistance, reproductive health, and workers’ health.
